Yichang BRT architecture improved
The Yichang BRT demonstration station at Wuyi Guangchang has completed the civil engineering construction stage. ITDP-China staff, GMEDRI partners and ITDP consultant architect Derek Trusler visited Yichang earlier in December to review and provide input to the station architecture and construction. At the end of the one-week input ITDP delivered 17 recommendations for the BRT architecture design including concealing station down pipes, extending the current overhang protection of the station, adding passenger information boards and additional seating, landscaping and greening improvements, and others. On-site media interviews were also carried out.
The proposals were presented to the Yichang Vice Mayor responsible for construction, the Asian Development Bank project manager Ki-Joon Kim, the Yichang Project Management Office, GMEDRI personnel, and related agencies. The Vice Mayor agreed to all of the recommendations and plans to install another demonstration station based on ITDP’s recommendations. Yichang officials and agencies are keen to ensure the Yichang BRT is a world class system. The Vice Mayor assigned GMEDRI to change the detailed engineer design based on these architectural recommendations and build the other stations accordingly.
