'Gold standard' TOD proposals for Tianjin
In Tianjin, ITDP together with city agencies and a Global Environment Facility project management office international expert team from the World Bank conducted a study in mid-2014 to develop TOD proposals for three metro station areas. The three metro station areas included one featuring a bus terminal, another with a station forecourt currently used as a parking lot, and another with a vacant park nearby. The proposal for the vacant park site, the so-called 'golden triangle', is illustrated in the report cover graphic below. This site connects with a metro station and a proposed BRT station, and also to a popular new east-west pedestrian mall which is currently severed from the park by a major road with an inconvenient pedestrian bridge crossing. The proposals are designed to reach 'gold standard' under ITDP's TOD Standard. The report in English and Chinese was completed in August 2014 and included input by ADEPT Architects (hired by ITDP)and the Tianjin Urban Planning & Design Institute (ITDP's MOU partners), and ITDP's work on it was funded by a grant from the Grantham Foundation.
