ITDP’s proposals for shaded walkways presented on Guangzhou TV

ITDP's Li Wei was interviewed by Guangzhou TV regarding bus stop waiting area improvements and pedestrian walkway improvement proposals developed by ITDP, inspired by the recent staff meeting in Kuala Lumpur. Li Wei compared the normal bus stop conditions to BRT stations, “where waiting areas have cooling fans, are fully shades, and have seating and other real-time information. Thus ITDP suggests that for improving the public transport service, Guangzhou should build more BRT corridors, especially in the main roads and high passenger demand locations,” said Li Wei. Secondly, Li Wei suggested another way to alleviate the hot weather is to build more covered sidewalks. “Guangzhou should cover the sidewalks with shade, which can provide a better walking environment and encourage citizens to walk.” ITDP has made a covered walkway rendering from Taojin Metro station to Jianshe Liu Rd in front of the Garden Hotel for demonstration purposes.
